Mendocino County Vineyards
Mendocino County is located directly north of Sonoma County and about 145 km from San Francisco, and is bordered by the Coast Range, the Pacific Ocean, and the great northern redwood forests.
It is a maritime-cooled wine region with the largest acreage of organic wine in the United States. Most of the vineyards are located in the inland valleys in the south and east of the county, with the Anderson Valley AVA being the most well-known growing area. Anderson Valley is now considered one of the best Pinot Noir regions in North America and is a valley that cuts laterally through the Coast Range rather than lying between ridges. The western end of the valley is only a few miles from the Pacific Ocean, while the eastern end is 20 miles away, which results in a large temperature range. -
