The bright golden yellow with green highlights already promises a visual experience that appeals to the senses. Fruity notes of peach, yellow plum, and apricot on the nose promise a pleasant fragrance. Interestingly, despite the wine's sweetness, there is a freshness and subtle herbal aroma, as well as the influence of the slate in the taste.

The harmonious balance between acidity and sweetness makes this wine particularly elegant and full-bodied, without seeming overly sweet or cloying. The aforementioned mineral note gives the taste a depth and seriousness that make the wine appear well-structured and balanced.

The recommendation to enjoy this wine as a digestif or with desserts certainly fits its sweet yet balanced nature. The idea of pairing it with well-spiced or hot Asian dishes, such as a spicy Burmese-style fish curry, points to its versatile pairing capability.

It seems as if this Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Auslese offers a complex and exciting wine experience that will only unfold further in the coming years due to its "mineral" component.

Markus Molitor

Every single one of our wines, whether white or red, dry, off-dry or fruity, quality wine or Prädikatswein, reflects the potential of its vineyard site and its vintage. And it does so as individually, authentically, and expressively as possible. This requires strict selection, precise manual labor, and the conscious inspection of every single berry. It is therefore no wonder that, during the harvest, the grapes are hand-picked exclusively by experienced teams in several passes and selected again multiple times in the cellar. Always under the watchful eyes of Markus Molitor. For only the careful separation of all ripeness levels and the secondary selection of individual berries allows the highest qualities to emerge – such as our unique series of Beerenauslesen and Trockenbeerenauslesen, which spans over four decades.

  • Markus Molitor Winery

The Markus Molitor winery, a family business for eight generations, spans a 100-hectare estate and is based on the historic Wehlener Klosterberg. This renowned winery is known for its exquisite wines, which come from 15 steep slopes with inclines of up to 80%. Since 2001, the winery has also expanded its vineyards along the Saar, gaining new and diverse wine profiles.

A remarkable feature of the winery is the ungrafted vines, some up to 100 years old, which are carefully maintained and cultivated. These old vines contribute significantly to the quality and diversity of the wines that Markus Molitor produces. The steep slopes and the specific conditions of the sites contribute to the uniqueness of the terroir, which is clearly reflected in the characterful wines the estate produces.

Markus Molitor has made a name for himself as a renowned winemaker who produces wines of the highest quality with great passion and dedication. The long tradition and the striving for excellence make the winery an important player in the world of German wine.

  • Vinification

The Markus Molitor winery relies on a multitude of traditional and artisanal approaches in winemaking. The use of spontaneous fermentation and manual labor distinguishes their processes. The grapes for the wines are harvested late, which achieves optimal ripeness and concentration of aromas.

A key feature is the cool and slow fermentation, which initially takes place in steel tanks. Care is taken to ensure that the characteristics of the grapes are preserved. Wines from different vineyard sites are often vinified separately and then matured further in large wooden barrels. Aging on the fine lees, known as "sur lie," lends the wines additional complexity and texture.

Although Markus Molitor is not part of the VDP (Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates), the winery uses alternative labeling for its wines. This independent classification reflects the unique properties and qualities of their wines, which are based on specific production processes and outstanding craftsmanship.
