The Winery
The history of the Vaccaro winery (70ha) begins in the early 70s, when Giacomo Vaccaro and his wife Caterina bought a small estate and fields in Salaparuta. In the immediate vicinity of the Duca di Salaparuta estates, they caused a stir with their grapes, which led the family to decide in 1999 to build their own winery and produce the wines themselves. Today, the Vaccaros own 100 hectares of vineyards in three different locations. Between 160 m and 400 m above sea level, there are various soil structures and microclimates that provide optimal conditions for the different grape varieties.

Geography and geology
The Vaccaro Estates stretch across the Belice Valley, just a few kilometers from the town of Salaparuta in western Sicily, a rural landscape where man and nature are still perfectly integrated. The cultivated varieties include both indigenous and non-native grape varieties.
Here we find the classic grape varieties of traditional Sicilian viticulture: Catarratto, Grecanico, Inzolia, Grillo, and Nero d'Avola, but the more well-known international varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah also flourish on these soils.Just as organic farming criteria were almost certainly applied back then, the Vaccaros have returned to natural farming methods and follow their passion with full commitment. Salaparuta is located in the upper part of the Belice Valley, with its calcareous soils and a very distinct microclimate. It is thanks to these special conditions and the dedication of the few winemakers around this modern-built town that a separate designation of origin, the DOP Salaparuta, was finally defined for the wines of Salaparuta a few years ago.
