There are numerous rock formations in the Kraichgau, including sandstones, claystones, and limestones. The oldest rocks are the Triassic Buntsandstein, which can be found in the area of Bretten and Mühlacker. These rocks were deposited approximately 240 million years ago when the area was covered by a shallow sea.

Over the course of its further geological history, the area was repeatedly flooded by the sea and then exposed again. The sediments from this period now form the layers of the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods, which can be found in the area of Sinsheim and Eppingen. These rocks contain numerous fossils, including ammonites and belemnites.

During the ice ages, the landscape and rocks of the Kraichgau were shaped by glaciers. The glaciers left behind moraines and gravel fields, which are now recognizable in the landscape as hills and terraces.

Auxerrois is an old grape variety, typical of the Kraichgau region, that had been forgotten for a long time. Auxerrois belongs to the Pinot family and is therefore related to the Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc grape varieties. Aged in stainless steel tanks and fermented entirely spontaneously, the aroma is reminiscent of ripe fruits such as quince, mirabelle plum, and mango. Its subtle acidity and the structure of this wine make it an ideal all-rounder, which is a delight whether enjoyed on its own or as an accompaniment to food.
